Ibu Robin Lim is a Filipina-American grandmother, midwife, author, and global advocate for human-centered birth. She is the founder of the Bumi Sehat Foundation, which operates six community health and birth clinics in Indonesia and the Philippines. Founded in 1993, Bumi Sehat (“Healthy Mother Earth”) was born from Ibu Robin’s vision to peacefully transform maternity care and reduce maternal and infant mortality. Following the lineage of her Filipina grandmother, a traditional healer and birthkeeper, she became a Certified Professional Midwife and led community-based, culturally respectful care.

Honored as CNN’s 2011 Hero of the Year and an Ashoka Fellow, her life’s work is rooted in restoring dignity, access, and safety to birth.

A recognized authority in midwifery and reproductive justice, Ibu Robin advocates globally for women’s and children’s health, human rights in childbirth, environmental responsibility, and cultural respect.

She is the author of over twelve books, a sought-after keynote speaker, and facilitator of doula and birthkeeper training worldwide. She also co-founded Bumi Herbs in Bali and co-hosts the Awakening Birth podcast.

Bumi Sehat’s reach expanded through rapid humanitarian response to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and subsequent disasters across Indonesia and the Philippines. Many emergency response sites became permanent clinics.

Today, Bumi Sehat employs over 300 staff, providing medical care, education, scholarships, and sustained community support.
